Steamships have been shipping in Papua New Guinea for over 90 years. We operate a fleet of coastal vessels and specialize in estuarine and river trades in the Gulf and Western Provinces. Steamships provides short and long term vessel charters, and reliable cargo liner services using geared, multi-purpose vessels ranging from 500DWT to 6000DWT. The company can also develop, implement and support inter-modal logistics shipping solutions, linked to land based services such as road transport, cargo handling and storage. Our vessels are all classed with Lloyds Register and comply with all international maritime regulations including SOLAS and MARPOL.
In addition to owning vessels, Steamships is a shareholder and manager of stevedoring companies at seven of the country’s ports, where it also operates the largest shipping agency business. As Swire Shipping’s in-country representative, Steamships can offer an extensive range of international liner shipping services to and from North and South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands as well as East and West about round-the-world services. All services are provided by a versatile, multipurpose fleet offering container, bulk and breakbulk configurations with gantry and slewing cranes designed specifically to carry a wide range of commodities, containerized and project cargoes.
