Marine Engineering Services are located at the western end of the main wharf, off the end of Stanley Esplanade, Port Moresby.
Facilities and Services
Marine Engineering Services offer a wide range of services over and above ship repair, with the facilities and staff being divided over the following operational divisions. We can look after ships ranging from 60 to 1000 tons. We can cater for pleasure craft, fishing vessels, coastal cargo vessels and barges.
Engineering Division
The yard has an extensive machine shop offering both heavy and light machining services. These include shaft and stern gear repair and replacement, bearing replacement, both composite and white metal, propeller repair and rebuild, valve repair and machining and has the capacity for all machining type work. The current staff are all tradesmen, Fitter/Machinist, and Marine Fitters.
Shipwright Division
The Shipwright Division has a staff of trained Shipwrights, Carpenters, Riggers and Painters. This division offers shipwright repair services on timber and fibreglass vessels, including hull repairs, internal and external outfitting repairs. The carpenters assist in the general woodwork repairs and in general timber machining and finished timber supply, utilising the extensive woodworking machines in the shipwright shop. The yard also supplies rigging services for rope and cable replacement and repair. The painters supply marine services for high pressure water blasting of vessel hulls, sandblasting on both vessels and general steel work, airless spray application of all types of protective coatings and anti-fouling. The shipwrights also offer a canvas repair and manufacturing service along with upholstery repair work. The shipwright division is also responsible for all slip operations, diving and winch operations.
Fabrication Division
The Fabrication Division are responsible for all steel, alloy and general welding duties, including hull repair work, superstructure repair work and general steel fabrication. The division is fully equipped with cutting and welding equipment, and includes 2 mobile welding units for remote site operations. The staff consists of fully trained, certified Welders and Boilermakers.
Life Raft Survey and Service Division
Marine Engineering Services operates a fully licensed Life Raft Survey service, employing a fully qualified Life Raft Service man, trained and licensed to service all .. major life raft brand names. The facility also carries full certification from the Papua New Guinea Department of Transport to service all brands of life rafts carried by PNG registered vessels and certification to survey and service all RFD, Beaufort life rafts on any ABS registered vessel. The facility consists of a licensed service loft, store and explosives facility, for the storage of flares. General repairs of inflatables are also undertaken, together with new equipment enabling the testing of EPIRB's.
Production Support Division
The Production Support Division duties includes the general administration duties of the yard, the accounts, production planning and production support, store operation, purchasing, berthage and cash sales.
